How mahethethunderstorm/terraform works
Purpose and Entry Point
This is a minimal Terraform tutorial repository. The primary entry point is demo.tf, which defines the infrastructure configuration applied by the Terraform CLI.
Configuration Layer
demo.tf is the authoritative declarative infrastructure source. It is the intended location for provider, resource, variable, or output declarations, although the available tree does not expose its contents.
Terraform Execution Boundary
Terraform CLI operates from the repository root, reading demo.tf and dependency metadata in .terraform.lock.hcl. Typical control flow is: initialize providers, produce a plan, then apply changes through the configured provider(s).
Provider and Module Runtime
The local Terraform working directory is .terraform/, with transient content under .terraform/temp. This directory is generated runtime state for initialized providers/modules and should not be treated as authored infrastructure configuration.
State Management
terraform.tfstate records the currently known deployed-resource state. It forms the key boundary between declared configuration (demo.tf) and real external infrastructure. Because it is repository-local, this project currently appears to use local state rather than an explicit remote backend.
Dependency Reproducibility
.terraform.lock.hcl pins Terraform provider dependency selections and checksums. It supports repeatable initialization across environments while Terraform obtains provider binaries during terraform init.
External Services and Operational Risks
External infrastructure services are determined by provider configuration in demo.tf, but cannot be identified from the supplied tree. Applying the configuration can create, modify, or destroy resources tracked in terraform.tfstate; state handling and provider credentials are therefore the main operational boundaries.
Components 8
Repository
- Terraform CLI · Runs init, plan, and apply from the repository root.
- demo.tf · Authoritative declarative infrastructure source.
demo.tf - Provider lockfile · Pins provider selections and checksums.
.terraform.lock.hcl - Local state · Known deployed-resource state; no remote backend is identified.
terraform.tfstate
Terraform Runtime
Generated local initialization content.
- .terraform/ · Initialized provider and module runtime content.
- temp
.terraform/temp
External Boundary
- Configured providers · Specific services are defined in demo.tf but not identified here.
- Managed infrastructure · Resources may be created, modified, or destroyed by apply.
Connections 9
