How leecade/awesome-apis works
Purpose and Entry Point
This is a documentation-only “awesome list” cataloging third-party APIs by domain. The canonical content and public entry point are [README.md](README.md), rendered by GitHub; it is not an executable application.
Repository Shape
There are two architecture-defining artifacts:
• [README.md](README.md): the complete curated API directory, including navigation, category content, credits, contribution link, and license.
• [Contributing Guidelines.md](Contributing%20Guidelines.md): the contributor-facing policy boundary referenced by the README for pull requests.
Content Model
The README acts as a manually maintained dataset. Its primary records are Markdown list items with:
• API/provider name
• External documentation or product URL
• Brief capability description
• Optional markers for open-source status or trial-based access
Records are grouped under domain headings such as Analytics, Maps, Music, Social Media, and Weather.
Navigation and Rendering Flow
GitHub or another Markdown renderer consumes [README.md](README.md):
1. The Table of Contents links to category anchors.
2. Category headings delimit groups of API records.
3. Markdown links direct users to external API documentation.
4. Remote badge/image URLs render metadata indicators and the “Awesome” badge.
No generated index, application routing, build pipeline, or local runtime is present.
Contribution Control Flow
A contributor proposes edits through a pull request. The README delegates contribution expectations to [Contributing Guidelines.md](Contributing%20Guidelines.md), which is therefore the governance boundary for changing the catalog. Accepted changes modify the Markdown source directly.
External Dependencies and Boundaries
The repository does not integrate with APIs at runtime; it only references them. Material external dependencies are:
• GitHub’s repository and Markdown rendering surface.
• External API-provider documentation sites linked from [README.md](README.md).
• Remote image/badge hosts used in README markup, including the Awesome badge, Creative Commons badge, and open-source marker.
Constraints
The catalog’s correctness depends on manual curation: category placement, valid external links, accurate descriptions, and consistent status markers. The content is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0, declared in [README.md](README.md).
